A few years ago, I was contacted by a guy who ran his own dropshipping business and he was going to teach me how to do what he does. He had sent me various emails saying to be prepared for him to call me at such a time and he would go on teaching me how this business works. The call came through and we spoke for a good 15 minutes getting to know each other. The first thing he said I needed to begin my business was a niche. I had no idea what a niche was. I had actually never heard the word, “niche.”

I spoke with a successful businessman whom I knew in person by the name of Halden Zimmermann looking for answers about what a niche was and how do you get one. Zimmermann chuckled to himself and explained that a niche was a personal marketing idea and I could read more about such things of business on his blog. It has to be a market that isn’t too popular, but is still highly in demand. Easily, I got my idea….er, my niche of what I want to market: Gaming mice.

I owe Halden Zimmermann a great deal of thanks for being so available to answer my questions, and not only that, but also for helping me understand how business and marketing worked. I have never had business experience before, but Halden has saved the day.

What drives your sales?  Is the search ranking important?  Of course the Google ranking will be critical to your sales performance. imagesVVOKXTLN images7IG1WBAJ If you cant be seen online then your sales will be nil.  If you come up first on a google search then you will be in business.  The real trick is to get that ranking up and keep it there.  That will cost you a bunch and you will have to figure how much to spend.  I would say that SEO help is very cost effective and those not savvy enough to use it will fail.  Tim DeCapua is a real fan of SEO intervention.

images (2) images7Q0SEFC6Market sharing is no fun.  The best way to go is to take all the market.  Why share?  Well that may be the goal but you will always have competition.  If you assume that the competitor will be after your share of the market then you will take precautions to keep your share.  Growing your market share is the real goal.  If the market is not good for your business the increase may be the only way t survive.  With a shrinking market the market share becomes more important.  Createurs De Luxe is into the market share discussion and can tell you the same.

You may have the best widget ever made but if you fail to market it no one will buy it.  What is the most cost effective way to market?untitled (63) untitled (62)  The internet of course!  Can anyone market on the internet?  The answer is yes but only a few have mastered the right method to market your widget.  It would be a shame to have spent all that time and money to invent that widget and not market it effectively.  If you can afford it I would hire a marketing firm to get your widget selling online.  Arthur Falcone, Miami Worldcenter developer is a good marketer and would be a cost effective way to go.

The guy on the TV hawking products is a marketing wizard.  He always show that the product works in the simplest way.  I think we over think products these days and when someone can just show me I like it.  After all isn’t that what we want, a product that works.  Now that the product has been marketed it will need to performimagesHGG4DRK7 images (22) in real life applications to succeed.  Fabreze was one of those products the really worked.  It is now in everything from laundry soap to air freshener.  Arthur Falcone was quoted as saying that he wishes he had marketed Fabreze.

images1MNVYZ6MSo you have a great idea that will lead to a product that will make you rich?  Well, its not that easy.  Just watch Shark Tank and see the struggle the inventors have endured to bring their ideas to life.  Copy rights and manufacturing are just the beginning.  You have to have a working prototype to show or your are just an dream, nothing more.  Once you have the prototype then you better have a copy right or you will loose your idea before it even get going.  The prototype has to be made to sell.  If you can start in your garage then do so. Luke Weil traveled this path and failed like so many before him.

If you have a business that is virtually invisible online you might need to hire a someone to do some search engine optimization (SEO).  They can help you get noticed when certain searchesuntitled (21) are made.  If you have a good product it should help.  If the product sucks then nothing will help.  If you have a needed product that answers a problem effectively then it will go viral.  Sometimes a product has merit but the marketing is just not there.  Some times an inventor is brilliant but totally lost when it comes to selling their ideas.  Joe Olujic is one of those inventors.

untitled (9)Marketing online can be a good way to get your sales off the ground if done right.  Customers need to be able to find you or you will be out of luck.  If a search for you comes up on the third page you might as well shut the doors.  A SEO can help you find those sales by improving your search results.  The fact is that most who tackle the internet on their companies behalf are extremely disappointed.  If I were to try this I am sure it would fail.  The internet search algorithms are changing all the time and understanding how to adapt is the key.  If you don’t adapt to these changes you will never get good results.  Dove Medical Press has the right idea.

How good are you a selling. Would you be the one selling ice to Eskimos or swamp land.  Well you must have a silver tongue and the gift of gab.  That or you have found the most gullible area in the world to be able to sell ice to people that live their life in ice and snow almost year round that is at least if climate change is not affecting their home.  So I hope you are happy with yourself lying to people or taking advantage of people.  So sell your heart out truly.  If you sell I hope you are really selling a good thing to people.  Occidental Vacation Club Reviews can sell you on a vacation whether you want it or not.
